    • Accessed the purge valve and the DMTL pump. Disconnected the DMTL connector and manually applied power and ground to the shut off valve solenoid. Disconnected the purge valve line from the carbon canister and pressure/flow/smoke tested the fuel tank, filler breather bottle and DMTL vent valve. Flow meter quickly sank to no flow and the system held pressure for 90 seconds with no drop off at all. Performed same test on the line going to the purge valve and found that there is a leak on this circuit of approximately .25mm. Disconnected the purge valve and plugged line and re ran the test and found no flow/leakage on the line from the canister to the purge valve. The purge valve is not sealing properly and needs to be replaced. This is likely due to the carbon canister coming apart internally and sending small amounts of carbon into the purge valve causing it leak. Recommend replace the purge valve solenoid and the carbon canister.
    • Remove and replace diagnosed faulty fuel tank vent valve with new. Re assemble vehicle, clear related faults, and test for proper operation.
    • Remove and replace weak accessory belt tensioner with new. Re assemble vehicle and test for proper operation.
    • Remove engine covers and accessories necessary to access, remove, and replace diagnosed faulty intake VANOS solenoid with new. Re assemble vehicle, clean affected areas, clear related faults, and test for proper operation.
    • Scanned engine control unit for codes and found 2A16 Fuel tank ventilation system and purge air system, minor leak, Absent 2A82 DME Vanos intake, Absent Test drove vehicle and monitored the intake camshaft position and found that it is slow to react. Recommend replace the vanos solenoid valve. Performed output test for the fuel tank leak test and found that the test failed with a micro leak. This is different from the minor leak code. Removed the air box and disconnected the purge valve and plugged the line. Ran the leak test again and the test passed with no leaks. Plugged purge valve in and ran the test two more times and the test passed both times with no leaks. The data is inconsistent which makes it impossible at this point to proper diagnose the cause of the concern. We suspect that the purge valve is failing but are unable to prove this theory at this time. It is possible that the physical manipulation we did caused the valve to seal up again. Recommend to wait until the issue becomes more frequent and retest or replace the purge solenoid valve.
